説明 | A very interesting feature that no one seems to understand. It is often described as "kite-like" but I think it looks like a light bulb. It is an area of about 24x18 km where bright white albedo features are arrayed across an area of lava basalts of Oceanus Procellarum. This image is one of five from short firewirecam grabs made during a teacher's workshop 1 day before Full Moon. This feature is associated with a strong, local magnetic anomaly. One theory says it formed as the result of a comet or similar fragmentary body colliding with the basalt surface. Another theory associates it with a large impact feature on the Moon's far side, forming Reiner Gamma by some sort of "rebound effect". MOUSEOVER: Crater and feature names and diameters. One note links to an online 3D view from the Smart 1 spacecraft. Note: photo is flipped left/right.Scope and mount supplied by 3RF (see www.3rf.org). |
