| 説明 | This is an old bridge built during roman time in the city of Bobbio (north of Italy) on the River Trebbia. I was inspired in the choice of colours by the legend surrounding this bridge. In ancient time works of this nature were often mistaken for works of the devil, especially if you wanted to combine something separated by nature or by God himself. Legend has it that Saint Colombano, an Irish friar, wanted to bring the word of God on the other side of the river. He did not know how to cross it. He then summoned the devil to help him to build a bridge. The devil accepted at a condition; he wanted the first soul who crossed the bridge once completed. Saint Colombano had no choice but to agree. That night the devil called upon many little devils and together they built the bridge. In the morning the devil waited on the other side of the bridge to claim his prize but Saint Colombano played him by letting pass on the bridge his friend dog in pain and dying. The devil had his soul but he was very angry and while going back to the underworld he kicked the bridge in an attempt to bring it down. |
