| 説明 | If you examine the masonry you can get an idea of how old a structure is. Before the mid 1830s there were no trains into Paterson, so brick would have been very expensive to bring in (via covered wagon). Even if brought in by canal (and canal was only cheap for coal that was close to where the canal started) so most structures were build of wood and stone, with the stone being sandstone. Much of it quarried from Mt. Morris, the remains of which are at the edge of the parking lot at the viewing place. In the examples, the masonry represents the older structures, the brickwork the newer. |
