説明 | Modern mollusc shells near the northern shoreline of Osprey Lake (Osprey Pond), northeastern San Salvador Island, eastern Bahamas.A remarkable, mollusc shell-rich deposit occurs near and along the shoreline of Oyster Lake. A barrier beach composed of these shells separates the lake from the rest of San Salvador Island's interior lake system.Readily recognizable shells here include bivalves: Polymesoda maritima (maritime marsh clams) & Anomalocardia puella (a.k.a. Anomalocarida auberiana) (pointed venus clams);and gastropods:Cerithidea costata (costate horn snail shells) & Lampanella minima (a.k.a. Batillaria minima) (West Indian false cerith snail shells), plus other snail species. |
