説明 | Piled high on St Ive's quayside. The Cornish lobster season is roughly Easter to October, so these bad boys are out of action for the winter.Nice to know that Lobsters get a good 6 months off. I'd like to think of them having a good time whilst not be trapped then boiled alive. I don't know what they do when not being persecuted for their tasty and profitable innards. Perhaps the winter sea bed, when unobserved by human eyes, is like some Gary Larson cartoon. Lobsters, in my alternative mental vision, could be seen swanning around nonchalantly. During the off season, we see them catching up with friends and family, getting some serious R&R, inadvertently gaining weight, perhaps lounging around in a partially elasticated shells whilst nibbling on the shrimp-based snacks and engaging in behaviour of suspicious morality.Actually the reality is that the Cornish coast is justly famed for its seafood; it is some of the best in the world. And thanks to TV-chefs like Rick Stein and Jamie Oliver, we know it too. However, the even better news is that the Cornish are doing their damnest to keep it that way. They lead by example and have exemplary sustainability standards. The classic example of which is the National Lobster Hatchery at nearby Padstow, which is a world-leading institute in promoting marine science and sustainable lobster fishing.More power to them. Without such responsibility of an entire region, our seas will be stripped bare by commercial pressures. Then no one gets to have lobster. |
