説明 | Name: James E BrownArrested for: False PretencesArrested at: North Shields Police StationArrested on: 12 October 1904Tyne and Wear Archives ref: DX1388-1-57-James E BrownThe Shields Daily News for 12 October 1904 reports:"James Brown (21), 36 Hadrian Road, Wallsend, was charged with having obtained by means of false pretences the sum of 1s 6d, the moneys of Robert English. The wife of the prosecutor, who resides at 16 Burdon Street, Percy Main, said that on the 8th ult. the prisoner came to her house and from certain representations he made to her she lent him 1s 6d for an hour.Robert English, a railway guard, said he was branch secretary of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants and he had never seen the prisoner before that morning. He was not a member of the society and there was no money due to him.PC Brown said he arrested the prisoner and charged him with the fraud. He replied "I cannot remember getting that money. I must have been drunk. I do not, however, deny having got it". Accused told the magistrates he had gone to the wrong house.
