説明 | Native warm-season perennial, loosely to densely tufted C4 grass; stems are erect, few in number and grow to 1.5 m tall. Stems and leaf sheaths are rough to the touch. Leaves are mostly basal. Flowerheads are oblong contracted panicles; 1-10 cm long, erect (usually), dense to somewhat sparse and often interrupted along their length. Spikelets are 1-flowered and 3-5 mm long, each with a rigid awn 3-8 mm long. Flowering is in late spring and summer. Usually found in low abundance in woodlands and open forests; occasionally in native grasslands. Often in disturbed areas with dappled shade and which are little grazed. Palatable to stock when young, it is of little agricultural value because of its low production and coarse stemmy habit when mature. Decreases under set stocking, even at low stocking rates. |
