| 説明 | We have just entered the Heriapolis, it's a 1.7km long ruin, so it seems to stretch endless into the distance. Hierapolis was first excavated by the German archaeologist Carl Humann during June and July 1887. After the large white limestone formations of the hot springs became famous again in the 20th century, it was turned into a tourist attraction named the 'Cotton Castle' (Pamukkale). When word got around, the ancient city was re-discovered by travellers, but also partially destroyed by new hotels that sprung up there as a result. These buildings have been removed in recent years.
