説明 | After a stroke paralysed William Hobson on 1 March, Willoughby Shortland (now Colonial Secretary) was tasked with gathering further signatures. He sent the Manukau-Kāwhia sheet to Captain William Symonds in March, and then took charge of the Waitangi sheet himself.On 23 April, Shortland, the Rev. Richard Taylor, and Lieutenant Smart of the mounted police, left the Bay of Islands on the schooner New Zealand. They were heading to Kaitaia, sailing up the East Coast and anchoring at the mouth of Awanui River (Rangaunu Harbour).This is a marine chart of the Northern part of New Zealand, surveyed between 1849-55 by the British Admiralty.
