説明 | The Temple of the Moon on the left, the Temple of the Sun in the middle, and one of the "guardhouse" rooms at the top of the steps on the right. Directly in front of the Temple of the Sun, on the other side of the trees, is the other wide staircase. Now the amazing part:There's a reason every temple is placed exactly where it is, a reason that may only become apparent once a year or even less often. In this case, Reggie explained that the temples are placed so that on the Winter solstice each year, when the sun rises behind the Temple of the Sun, the light is channeled down a crevice and hits the arrowhead-shaped rock on the staircase. It flows through the hole bored in it and boomerangs around to strike the pyramid way at the other end of the plaza at the spot where the mural was painted. That evening, the sun shines through a crevice at the top of the plaza pyramid and follows the same path backward through the rock to strike the Temple of the Sun.Mind. Blowing. What we couldn't have learned from these people if the Conquistadors hadn't treated them as ignorant savages to be conquered or destroyed. |
