説明 | Edmund Bowman had a pastoral run here with adjacent Werocata in 1845. Pareora when sold to Gustav Gebhardt in 1897 was an estate of roughly 10,000 acres of wheat and grazing lands alogn the lower Wakefield River. The house is superbly sited on the eastern side of a lagoon of the Wakefield River. The original part of the homestead was built in the 1850s. Edmund Bowman Senior died here in 1866 when he drowned whilst trying to cross the flooded Wakefield River. Gehbardt added more rooms to the rear of the house making about 12 main large rooms with several rooms of cellars. The heritage wool shed is on the northern side of the Wakefield River. The property was sold by Gebhardt in 1910 and broken into 19 small farms. The house is being renovated by the current owners. |
