Peter Riley, right, commander of the New York National Guard’s Joint Task Force Empire Shield, and his senior non-commissioned officer, New York Air National Guard Chief Master Sgt. Edwin Mondezie, provide an operations briefing to Maj. Gen. Jack Briggs, Director of Operations for Headquarters U.S Northern Command during his visit to New York City November 26. The two Guardsmen are the command team for JTF-Empire Shield, a security enhancement force performing state active duty in New York City to augment law enforcement. Some 500 Soldiers and Airmen are currently serving on the task force and surged operations November 26 in support of the busiest travel day in the city.
