| 説明 | This block of woods is the 8,500 ft. Eucalyptus Grove within Haleakala National Park. These tall non-native trees stand in stark contrast to the native shrubland. They also harbor native bats.Hawaiian Hoary Bats roost on the branch tips of tall trees, where they spend the day. At night they fly around foraging for insects. This open area in the lee of the trees is perfect for bats. And indeed, the detector picked up bats all seven nights we had it deployed.Though the number of bats in this area of Haleakala is low, we have now shown they are here. Looking ahead, we'd like to find the actual roost tree(s) the bats are in. It would also be good to determine if the bats are here year round, or just seasonally. |
