| 説明 | Said to be from Larnaca. This is another piece that I think may have represented a deity combining animal and human traits. Obviously the figure is pregnant and female but either the woman has a very unique hairstyle or has ears like a bear. She also does not appear to have a human-type neck. The figurine is dated before the Egyptian conquest of Cyprus, however so if it were a hybrid deity, it would not have been the result of Egyptian conquest. However, many figurines representing bears have been found in Cypriot sites so obviously bears played a role in Cypriot religion.Photographed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, New York. |
