説明 | Rue de France | Promenade des AnglaisIn 1920, in the minds of policymakers, a 3rd Festival Palace is needed to extend customer loyalty.The result was impressive: the use of reinforced concrete allowed elevations and loading unequaled before. The façades and interior decoration were entirely Art Deco. The south façade was decorated with female figures and sea horses carved by Antoine Sartorio.Full exploitation of the palace was performed in two stages. On January 10, 1929, a 1st inauguration took place with the opening of the theatre and restaurant, then a second, two weeks later, with the inauguration of the ball rooms and baccarat hall. Both opening evenings were hailed by the press as the major events of the tourist season.Arch. Charles and Michel Dalmas1927-28.In 1934, the building was modernized but it lost its Art Deco style from the 2nd World War.Following a hazardous management, financial difficulties of the case Le Roux, the operating company was put into liquidation in 1978. It was later bought by investors who wanted to raze it.With the exception of two of its façades, the casino is completely demolished in May 1990. Sensitive to the arguments of writers Michel Butor and Max Gallo, mobilized with various advocacy groups, Jack Lang, Minister of Culture, decided to list in extremis as monument the Art Deco façade.Since 2004, it is a luxury resort with restaurants, solarium, swimming pools and panoramic view and a casino. It also has a theatre. |
