| 説明 | Photographed in Petaling Jaya, MalaysiaAssembly : ChinaThus far, I've found two Chinese vans / minibuses which have either been cloned or based on the Toyota HiAce / Commuter; an Era Jinbei and a CAM Placer-X. The Chery Transcom is third on the list, and I've yet to find a Toyota HiAce, old or new. It just goes to show how popular these Chinese vans have become in Malaysia in the last 5 years. The Chery Transcom was brought into Malaysia by Chery Alado in July 2011. Unlike most of the Chinese vans sold here, the Chery Transcom was directly imported ( CBU ) from China ( where it's known as the Rely H5 ), and came with just one petrol engine. Fortunately, it's quite a decent one; a 2.0-litre turbocharged ACTECO unit with 168 hp at 5,500 rpm and 235 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. Chery's ACTECO engines were apparently developed by Austrian firm, AVL. On the outside, it may not be immediately apparent that the Transcom is a HiAce clone, but upon closer inspection, the design cues will become increasingly obvious. In Chery's defence, at least they've had the common courtesy of fitting re-designed head and tail lights, bumpers and rims. However, they cannot hide the fact that the Transcom is just another shameless copy of the HiAce / Commuter.Like all the other Chinese vans sold in Malaysia, the Chery Transcom is significantly cheaper than its Japanese equivalents, but not necessarily better. However, from my observations, the Chery Transcom isn't nearly as popular as the Jinbei or Placer-X / Joylong in Peninsular Malaysia.I LIKE / I DISLIKE : I don't know enough about this van to form any opinions. |
