Meteor Crater) of Arizona, USA (public display, Field Museum of Natural History, Chicago, Illinois, USA).Canyon Diablo is an iron meteorite, composed of criss-crossing blades of the iron-nickel alloy minerals kamacite and taenite (both are Fe-Ni). Iron meteorites having this texture and composition are called octahedrites. This rock is a core fragment from a now-disrupted differentiated asteroid in the Asteroid Belt between Mars and Jupiter.Age: 4.55 billion years |
