説明 | Native, warm-season, perennial, robust, erect grass to 2-4 m tall and with extensive rhizomes. Collars are dark purple to black and ligules are a membranous rim with hairs about 1 mm long and surrounded by hairs to 10 mm long. Leaves are long and strap-like, to 3.5 cm wide andmostly on stems. Flowerheads are open panicles (15-30 cm long); green to purplish-brown when young, becoming silver-white at maturity. Spikelets have 4-8 hairless florets and the rachilla (stem joining spikelet together) has hairs about 12 mm long. Flowering is in summer and autumn. Found in unshaded areas where there is good moisture (fresh or brackish) and fertility, such as swamps and streams where there is little water movement. Also grows in woodlands, rocky places and roadsides provided there is adequate moisture. This example is from the North West Slopes NSW. |
