説明 | At the end of WW1, some 110 aeroplanes were transported to South Africa as an 'Imperial Gift. 22 of these were SE5a fighters and they served until 1922. This example (SAAF serial 320) was then given to the Durban Technical College, where it was used for technical training until the end of WW2. At that time it was donated to the South African National Museum of Military History, where it remains on display. It's original identity has always been unclear, although it is believed to be either 'F7781' or 'F7783'. During a recent restoration a further attempt at positive identification was attempted, but without success. The aeroplane, however, has been well restored and is now in a representative WW1 scheme, having previously been silver-doped and marked as 'A2-4'.Saxonwold, Johannesburg.South Africa.16-9-2014 |
