説明 | The KTYD on 99.9fm and KTMS on 990am. The two towers are KTYD's 5000-watt daytime array, and the three towers together are its 500-watt night array. KTYD's 34,000-watt signal comes from a 4-bay antenna on one of the two main towers. This whole setup is an anomaly in several ways. First, it's rare to have a transmitter site where an AM signal comes from higher on the mountain than any neighboring FMs. Second, AM signals work better being radiated from low flat and highly conductive ground. KTYD is probably up here mostly because that was the only possible place to put the transmitter. Third, the towers are painted a neutral gray, rather than red and white, to serve as a minimal eyesore here in a national forest. As of 2007, rumor had it that the owners were looking to take this station dark, to make room for a bigger signal out of KFWB/980 in Los Angeles. See Dennis Gibson's note below for more. This shot was taken before the scene was burned over in November 2008 and May 2009 in the Tea Fire and the Jesusita fire. |
