説明Diplodocus sauropod dinosaurs from the Jurassic of Montana, USA (public display, MOR 715B, Museum of the Rockies, Bozeman, Montana, USA).Sauropod dinosaurs were the largest terrestrial animals ever. They all have the same basic body plan: large body with four walking legs, very long neck & tail, and a small head relative to body size. Sauropods were herbivores, and are often perceived as holding their heads & necks up high to reach vegetation normally out of reach to other organisms. Modern reconstructions of many sauropod species depict them with heads and necks held close to the horizontal, or at low angles above the horizontal. The above photo shows Diplodocus sauropod dinosaur leg bones in reconstructed fluvial mudshale (mudrock; siliciclastic mudstone) - most of them are upright and many were found articulated. This has been interpreted as the remains of juvenile sauropods that became stuck in mud along an ancient river. Bitemarks on some bones indicate predation before final burial (Allosaurus teeth have been found here).Classification: Animalia, Chordata, Vertebrata, Dinosauria, Sauropodomorpha, DiplodocidaeStratigraphy: Morrison Formation, Upper JurassicLocality: Mother's Day Site, Carbon County, southern Montana, USA
