説明 | David Hume was a leading contributor to the Scottish Enlightenment his subjects were philosophy, history and political economy. As the plate informs; he lived here just off the Royal Mile, Hume is buried about a mile away in The Old Calton Cemetery, a place that's on my visit-list for later today. James Boswell was another famous Son of Ayrshire who became a celebrated writer who spent time in James's Court. It was here in 1773 that he received a note from Dr. Samuel Johnson announcing the great lexicographer's arrival in Edinburgh. Together they were soon to set off on a tour of Scotland destined to produce two classic travel books: Johnson's: A Journey To The Western Islands of Scotland and James Boswell's: Journal Of A Tour To The Hebrides, published in 1785. |
