説明 | On the way into Lime Street station you go through a hill. Back in the early days of the railway* trains couldn't do hills, so the Victorians decided to slice straight through Brownlow Hill. This photo doesn't truly convey the strangeness of five-storey high walls, carved by hand, either side of you. *as in the Liverpool-Manchester line - first passenger railway in the world. |
