説明Introduced, cool-season, annual tap-rooted herb. Initially forms rosette then produces erect flowering stems to 1 m tall. Stems and leaves with bristly hairs. Leaves variable, often large (to 30 cm long) with deeply-lobed rounded margins. Cotyledons are heart-shaped and hairless. Petals 10-20 mm long; white, pale yellow or lilac with darker veins. Stalked fruits are held away from stem; to 6 cm long, cylindrical and constricted between seeds. Germinates autumn to spring. Flowering is from late winter to summer. Major weed of winter crops (especially canola and turnips) and young pastures in southern Australia. A weed of wasteland and roadsides. Mostly spread as a contaminant in agricultural products. Declared noxious in some southern NSW areas. Taints meat and milk when grazed and is responsible for poisoning of cattle and lambs. In crops, small infestations can be chipped or spot sprayed. Large infestations require repeated cultivation or selective herbicides. In pastures it is suppress by maintaining vigorous pastures.
