説明 | Introduced, warm season, perennial, aquatic herb, with small tubers that may develop into short vertical rhizomes. Leaves are circular with a radial slit and 30–40 cm wide, margins are irregularly sinuate. Flowers are emergent, to 15 cm wide and standing about 30 cm above the water surface. Sepals 4, are green with white or bluish-tinted margins; the green areas of the sepals may be flecked with very dark blue spots, especially in cultivated forms. Outer stamens are petaloid; appendage are larger on outer stamens, small on inner stamens, and the same colour as the petals. Flowering is in the warmer months. A native of Africa, it escaped from cultivation and is now an environmental weed of freshwater habitats in Queensland and NSW. |
