| 説明 | Wild horses in the Humboldt Herd Area. The BLM Winnemucca District issued a decision in full force and effect to begin a gather of wild horses in the Humboldt Herd Area due to private property and public safety concerns. The Humboldt Herd Area was identified in 1971 following the passage of the Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act. The Humboldt Herd Area is comprised of intermingled public and private land (checkerboard landownership). A ruling by the Federal Court in 1978 required BLM to remove wild horses and burros from private land as soon as practicable upon landowner request. As a result, this made it difficult to manage wild horses and burros where there is intermingled public-private land.Herd Areas are different from Herd Management Areas. The Humboldt Herd Area is not managed for wild horses due to the checkerboard land pattern and therefore no appropriate management level (AML) has been set for the Humboldt Herd Area. This Herd Area is managed for zero wild horses. Wild horses removed from the range will be sent to the Palomino Valley National Wild Horse and Burro Adoption Center (PVC) outside of Reno, Nevada. PVC is open to the public Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and on the first Saturday of the month, 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. For adoption details and more information about PVC, visit: on.doi.gov/1qeweUJ. |
