説明 | Introduced, cool-season, perennial, erect herb, typically 30-60 cm tall and with shallow rhizomes and roots. Stem leaves are alternate, stem clasping and toothed or pinnately lobed. Flowerheads of 1-3 heads. Heads are 3-6 cm diameter, with white ligulate ray flowers and yellow tubular disc flowers. Flowers mostly spring and summer. A garden escape that is now a weed, especially in disturbed or low ground cover situations, including native grasslands, roadsides and overgrazed pastures. Mainly grows in temperate regions where annual rainfall exceeds 750 mm; prefers low pH, low nutrient and heavy damp soils. Low quality and densely-growing, it can exclude other pasture species and reduce the carry capacity. Eaten by horses, sheep and goats, but avoided by cattle; will taint milk if grazed. Especially spreads where cattle graze, becoming more of a problem as grazing pressure increases. Effective controls include intensive cultivation, good grazing management, mob stocking of cattle, fertilisers (especially nitrogen) and herbicides. |
