説明 | Ceratonia siliqua CaesalpiniaceaeEvergreen legume tree famouse for its Carob - a source of chocolate substitute,I am a bit confused with it's flowers on the photo:most carob trees are dioecious, some are polygamous (!!!) , thus flowers could be male, female or hermaphrodite. I believe it is male tree, - well, at least I have never seen a fruit here!Carob is a long-lived tree native to the Mediterranean where it has been in cultivation for at least 4000 years. The plant was well known to the ancient Greeks, who planted seeds of this plant in Greece and Italy.Eating: the pods can be eaten fresh or roasted and ground into powder that is used as a caffeine-free chocolate substitute.Glossary: dioecious = male and female flowers on different treesMt.
