説明 | Llandudno Transport Festival 03/05/2014The Norman Lido moped started out as the German made Achilles Lido, which was launched in Germany in 1956 and in the UK in 1957. In 1958 Achilles hit financial trouble and closed down, and Norman, backed by Tube Investment Group, bought the tooling and design rights from Achilles.Norman made a number of design changes to the Lido before launching on the Norman Lido on the UK market in 1958. The principle change was to use the Villiers 3K 50cc moped engine in place of the original Sachs engine. The Villiers 3K was a 50cc / 2hp engine with built in clutch, two speed gearbox and pedal drive for moped use. The list price was £74-11s-0d.In late 1959 the Villiers 3K engine was dropped and replaced with a Sachs 2.2hp 2 speed engine, with the moped now called the "Super Lido", with a list price of £76-13s-0d. This model was made until 1961. |
