Current building opened in 1882.Built adjacent to the Basin and the New Dock, the wool stores and Fisher Bridge, the Colac Hotel was located in a busy and prominent position in the Port, and was popular with waterside workers, timber mill workers, seafarers and local residents alike. The building was owned by the Australian Labor Party from the 1970s.The extra wide front door may have been built to facilitate the exodus of patrons returning to work quickly when whistles announced the end of lunch or when ships' departures were announced.
