| 説明 | I love matilija poppies.Pronounce them like this: muh-TILL-uh-ha.They are tall. This particular bush is about 10-feet tall already. It's only just begun to bloom, but has hundreds of buds in the line up.The flower itself looks like a fried egg and the blooms are about as big as your outstretched hand. Go ahead -- try it now -- spread your hand open, palm up, fingers stretched to maximum stretchitude. That's how big.Every year this bush is cut down to about a foot tall. And you think to yourself, too bad. That was a cool bush. Too bad it had to go. And then with silent determination it spends the rest of the year slowly gathering strength until one day you look at it again and think Holy Mother of God when did the bush explode? These flowers are at almost six feet tall. But there were many, many buds above them.... getting ready to jump off the blossom diving board.2004's blossoms here and 2003's blossoms here. |
