| 説明 | THEY ALSO SERVEJohn Milton was right, “they [do] also serve who only stand and wait”. Look at them; line upon line of steam engines seen here at Bristol’s Barrow Road shed in the early 1960s. A train spotter’s delight; Black 5s, Jinties, 0-6-0 goods engines, ex- LMS, ex- GWR all mixed up together awaiting their next duty. When was this; at a week-end, a Bank Holiday an evening? One can almost hear them hissing together as if discussing the day’s work just ended. What is the collective noun for a gathering of locomotives? Whatever it is here they are waiting in line to serve, eager workhorses of a bygone era. |
