説明 | HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – Chief Master Sgt. Lori Ashness, 282nd Combat Communications Squadron, Rhode Island Air National Guard addresses senior noncommissioned officers from around Massachusetts on the topic of force development during a first sergeants symposium at the Massachusetts Army and Air National Guard’s Joint Force Headquarters, here, Feb. 10, 2014. Ashness previously served as the state command chief master sergeant for the Rhode Island Air National Guard. In the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Air Force Reserve and U.S. Air National Guard, the first sergeant position is not a rank but a "special duty designation" that can be held by a master sergeant, senior master sergeant or chief master sergeant. The mission of the first sergeant is to ensure the that the mission is being met, the Airmen and their needs are met (food, lodging, equipment and morale), Airmen are maintaining proper military discipline, mission essential supplies are on hand and acts as the unit commander’s advisor on enlisted issues or matters.
