説明 | HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – Maj. Gen. L. Scott Rice, The Adjutant General, Massachusetts National Guard, addresses senior noncommissioned officers from around the commonwealth for a first sergeants symposium at the Guard’s Joint Force Headquarters, here, Feb. 10, 2014. Rice stressed the importance of the first sergeants role in the Air National Guard and answered questions concerning the future of the force. In the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Air Force Reserve and U.S. Air National Guard, the first sergeant position is not a rank but a "special duty designation" that can be held by a master sergeant, senior master sergeant or chief master sergeant. The mission of the first sergeant is to ensure the that the mission is being met, the Airmen and their needs are met (food, lodging, equipment and morale), Airmen are maintaining proper military discipline, mission essential supplies are on hand and acts as the unit commander’s advisor on enlisted issues or matters.
