説明 | Some photos contributed by former PC497 Robbie MacDonald, who recently retired as Inspector at Stornoway. Among his stations in his early years (1980s) were Aviemore (Invermess-shire) and Gairloch (Wester Ross).A road safety rally at Big Sands, Gairloch in the late 1980s. Such an event, run primarily by the local officers, was a great way of maintaining/fostering police-community realtions. The Force had a number of such caravans , which coull be "borrowed" from HQ or Dingwall for such events. These caravans were intended as mobile offices/bases for any major event, whether a Highland Games or Major Crime or simply as a temporary police office. At most the force had 4 of these vehicles, but now sadly they have been disposed of. The caravans were divided into two, one part for staff use (complete with radio base set and a kettle) and the other portion as a "public enquiry office". Many's the time an officer gave thanks for such a shelter when sent to an exposed location in bad weather to guard a locationE650JAS was a Ford Granada, a patrol car based at Dingwall, and which was first registered in December 1987 |
