| 説明 | Introduced, cool-season, succulent, erect, perennial herb, 30-100 cm tall. Leaves are linear, nearly cylindrical, pale green to pale brown with darker green blotches and have a shallow groove on upper surface. Flowers are orange-red and occur in a cluster at the top of the stem. Flowers from autumn to spring. A native of S Africa and Madagascar, it is a widespread garden escape that is a weed of bushland and disturbed sites, such as riverbanks, roadsides and fence lines. Usually found on rocky, gravely or sandy soils with low ground cover. Tiny projections (plantlets) at the leaf tip can form new plants if broken off. Poisonous to livestock, causing heart failure. Most poisonings occur during flowering. The greatest danger is during feed shortages or droving. Can be controlled through hand removal, being careful not to break off any parts, fire, herbicides. Once an infestation is removed, the area needs to be revegetated to provide future competition. |
