| 説明 | The dashboard and instrument panel of a 1960 Volkswagen, from the sales brochure. This was my first Volkswagen, which I bought in Germany in June 1960, when I was in the U.S. Army. I thought the VW was a marvelous car, but a few things bothered me. This drawing shows some of the features, but does not note the absence of a gas gauge. Instead, there was an awkward lever under the dashboard near "4", which you had to turn when gasoline reached the "reserve" level. "5" is the windshield wipers. As a friend put it, they were "one-speed wipers for one-speed rain." And the heater did not give much heat. The date on this photo is when I took delivery of the car in June 1960. The location is the dealer in Heilbronn, Peter Hagelauer. |
