説明 | OHAKEA, New Zealand -- (Left) U.S. Air Force 1st Lt. Eric Darwin, 517th Expeditionary Airlift Squadron pilot, assists Royal New Zealand Air Force Flight Lt. Jimmy Davidson, a pilot for RNZAF 40 Squadron, with night vision goggles prior to low-light tactical flying training Nov. 23 during the multilateral RNZAF-sponsored tactical airlift exercise, Kiwi Flag, at RNZAF Base Ohakea, New Zealand. Davidson is assigned as a liaison officer during U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III missions for the exercise. A RNZAF LNO joins each airlift mission to assist the U.S. Air Force pilots in understanding and following all New Zealand flying protocols. The multinational air crew also engages in a subject-matter-expertise exchange on the C-17 cargo jet since the airframe is not part of the New Zealand military’s inventory. The 517th EAS comprises two C-17s and Airmen from Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii, and Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska. The deployed team is conducting airlift support and cargo and personnel airdrops for the exercise in conjunction with Pacific military partners from New Zealand, the Republic of Singapore, Australia and New Caledonia. Darwin is the safety officer for the 535th Airlift Squadron at JB PHH. Kiwi Flag personnel are supporting Exercise Southern Katipo -- held in New Zealand’s South Island -- by managing air operations and providing cargo and passenger airlift including tactical air drops to SK participants. SK hosts nine countries involved in air, land and maritime operations. (U.S. Air Force photo by Senior Master Sgt. Denise Johnson/Released) |
