説明 | Col. Peter Helmlinger, left, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Europe District commander, presents a traditional groundbreaking plaque to Rear Adm. Jack Scorby, commander of Navy Region Europe, Africa and Southwest Asia; after the official groundbreaking ceremony Oct. 28 for the Aegis Ashore Missile Defense Complex at Deveselu Air Base, Romania. It symbolizes the partnership among the organizations that will be coordinating on the $134 million construction project. Senior military and civilian leaders from NATO; the Missile Defense Agency; European Command; U.S. Air Forces in Europe; Europe District and the U.S. Embassy also attended the event, which signals the start of construction for the second stage of the European Phased Adaptive Approach to ballistic missile defense.
