説明 | Here is a long overview of the Terrace of the Elephants, taken from the parking lot, soon after I boarded my tuk tuk for my return trip to my hotel. I had take a pretty circuitous route through the bush at the rear of the structure which you see at far left, thanks to a wrong turn I took after I came out of the Bayon temple. Had I taken the correct turn, I would have come here on this road, and by tuk tuk. Oh well. I had had an interesting walk from the rear end though. But thanks to the wrong turn, I did end up seeing the Shrine of the Leper King, had an interesting talk with some locals and had watched a local artist at work (see previous pictures earlier in this album). When I eventually met up with my tuk tuk driver guide, he was rather disturbed and worried as to where I had got to all this while- he probably expected me to come walking by in just a few moments. Oh well! The Terrace of Elephants you see in the distance was used by the Khmer king Jayavarman VII to watch the parade of his successful returning armies. This 350 mtr long terrace is located in the grounds of the Royal Palace of Angkor Thom, which itself is within the boundaries of the ancient walled city of Angkor Thom. Nothing much really remains of the palace and of Angkor Thom, except for ruins and bits and pieces of broken buildings and stone building blocks. Detailed notes about the Terrace of the Elephants, Royal Palace of Angkor Thom and the ruined city of Angkor Thom appeared earlier in this album. (see previous pictures).
