説明 | Tourists on the terrace of the Bayon temples- one of the scores of Angkor era temples which dot the countryside around Siem Reap, Cambodia, and who's distinctive feature is the scores of serene large stone faces staring down at you from the temple's gopurams. (pagoda towers). The sheer size and scale of the towers, large gaps and intervening structures and a tiny 1.8 in LCD screen of a tiny point and shoot camera rendered almost completely dark by the harsh late afternoon sun made composing difficult. Exposure too proved righer tricky due to the very bright late afternoon sun, very dark shady patches and generally black objects (the towers). And to add to my woes, a large group of SE Asian tourists has descended upon the site, which made photographing rather inconvenient. Since the time of Jayavarman VII, the Bayon has undergone numerous additions and alterations at the hands of subsequent monarchs. During the reign of Jayavarman VIII in the mid-13th century, the Khmer empire reverted to Hinduism and its state temple was altered accordingly. In later centuries, Theravada Buddhism became the dominant religion, leading to still further changes, before the temple was eventually abandoned to the jungle. Detailed notes about the Bayon temple appeared earlier in this album (see previous pictures) and also appear later as we go along in this album. (see subsequent pictures).
