説明2125 Kalorama Road NW in Washington, D.C., in the United States. One stop on the 2013 Kalorama House Tour. This 1914 combination Tudor Revival and Jacobean Revival-style home was designed by architect Henri Jules de Sibor. It was purchased by the Portugese government in 1945 and was greatly enlarged. Portugese architect Leonardo Castro Friere designed a new front entryway and wings on both sides. These are in a modified 19th century Portugese design. Decorative masonry medallions featuring the Portugese coat of arms and flag were added to the exterior. The floor of the new entry is of marble and the wainscoting consists of ceramic tiles modeled on those in historic Portugese structures. The library in the new southwest wing is known as the "Map Room". It contains original Portugese maps of North America drawn in the 19th century. The exception is an original map showing Ferdinand Magellan's voyage through the Strait of Magellan. The floor plan of the structure is known to be nearly identical to that of the French Ambassadorial Residence next door. The building served as the Embassy of Portugal until 2002.
